Is there any good automated plugin/software that takes regular backups and stores them on the cloud?
Importantly it should not store anything on the websites’ actual servers and should not use a lot of CPU. For example, Updraft was using a lot of resources when I tried it.

I'm using rsync and mysqldump scripts, on a Synology, with a daily cron. Than, send that to a S3 bucket (BackBlaze) via Synology HyperBackup to get x days of backup history.
Like this, I don't rely on a plugin and I can backup any kind of websites, WP or not. If you don't want to use a Synology, I suppose you can do the same with TrueNas.
For me, the downsides of a plugin is if your wordpress fail, due to an automatic update or something, will your backup will run? If you get hacked, is it possible to remotely remove your backups from the plugin interface? I find that it's better to split and let WordPress do his main job : display a website
